Morning Love Song (Pianissimo)

By Abby Manzella

In the red Bialetti stovetop pot we bought years ago to recall a trip to Rome, you boil the espresso. Across the tiled floor, I Cuisinart the milk into froth. Experimentation has proven that the liquid whips up better in our veggie chopper than in all the specialty frothers purchased and discarded. The soft rhythms of mechanical gurgling and whirling join the caffeinated aroma of anticipation. Mmms and smiles make up the only conversation before the two, coffee and foam, are merged and topped with cinnamon. We gently touch all along the way.
