Cheese

By Leslie Lisbona

My Dad sat at our round kitchen table, a hunk of cheese in front of him, his head in his hands.  What’s the matter, my sister and I asked?  “I don’t know why I’m gaining so much weight” he said, “All I eat is cheese”.  Debi and I caught each other’s eyes and tried not to laugh.  “Dad”, I said “Stop eating cheese!”  I wrapped it in wax paper and put it in the fridge.  “Okay” he said, and lit up a cigarette, inhaled deeply, and blew the smoke into the tiffany lamp above our heads.
